  1. Helpful comparisons

The People’s Pharmacy is wonderful. We are lucky to have Joe and Terry. This guide is useful to compare options for a lay person to understand. Thank you.

  2. Out of Date

    Sandy P

This was helpful for the basics, but it is out of date. For instance, the newer drugs are not included. And it would be good to know if there have been changes in side effects for bisphosphonates since this was initially published. I expected to see the latest info when I requested this booklet.

Informative, thoughtful, just like your broadcast. I am lucky to have you as a resource. Thank you

  4. Osteoporosis

    Thomas Edwards

A good starter for a complicated disease. Bisphosphonates may help, but with serious side effects for a few. Diet and supplements are helpful.

  5. Needs to be updated.

This guide seems like it is due for an update. There are newer medications on the market that aren’t mentioned. I believe you also interviewed someone who has studied how certain yoga poses can help with this condition, and yet that isn’t included in the guide.

    Rating: 3 stars

  6. Generally good but not up to date

    New Mexico

I’ve done a lot of research on Osteoporosis treatment so there was nothing new in this pdf, but it is nicely organized. Here are my criticisms and why I won’t be sharing this with anybody who is at risk.

    1. I question the overall bias in this guide that drugs are the way to go. It seems that you are bending over backwards to not offend the drug industry. Suggesting that Bisphosphonates “may be a good fit” at this point is dangerous advice. You know what they are seeing. I predict that someday soon, they’ll be off the market. They are proving to be counter-productive, damaging to bones.

    2. No mention of the dangers of Calcium in the bloodstream with heart attacks. People should be warned about that. I understand that blood calcium levels are tied to mortality. Be careful with Calcium. There is one helpful observation in this pdf that people who get a lot of sun but no calcium have far less osteo than those who get a lot of calcium but no sun. But that is a sidebar, not the takeaway you give.

    3) No mention of K2, which is now well-known to be important for managing bones and getting mineral (calcium-magnesium etc.) into the bones.

    4) Magnesium is mentioned, lightly. Needs to be stressed.
