We developed People’s Pharmacy MoM Roll-on Deodorant with milk of magnesia as its main ingredient thanks to countless testimonials from our readers. The original formula  Is unscented, but some customers have requested deodorant with fragrance.

  1. Good deodorant, just wondering if ok to use on other body parts

    I really like this deodorant. I was using plain generic milk of magnesia for many years that I would pour into a roll-on bottle, but then they all started adding a second ingredient, which was not good. Later I found this deodorant on People’s Pharmacy. I only use the unscented, as I do not like smells.

    My question is I am wondering if it is safe to use under breasts.

    I came here hoping for the unscented version you used to sell. The last 2-pack I purchased were “scented for women.” Maybe I’ve been wrong about my gender all my life, because I’m not a fan of the smell. Guess I’ll just buy more cotton to swab actual milk of magnesium on, sigh.

    My favorite organic deodorant that I used for 20 years is no longer available. I tried many other products but they just don’t work for me until now. Purchased a variety pack and really like all of the scents and unscented too. Will definitely order again.

    I’ve been using this for years. After I put it on, I just swipe it to spread it out. I give it time to dry before getting dressed. It never causes itching or rashes as other deodorants have. I usually get it when it goes on sale. I’m ready to reorder now, and I would prefer to stay with the one I’ve been using. I will say, that sometimes if I am going to be really sweating I will use a regular deodorant but eventually I will get the itch and rash again.

    Just broke open a 6-pack, ordered when it was on sale a while back. Big mistake! Thought I had ordered the unscented, which I’ve used and liked for quite a while.

    The scent of this stuff is overpowering… ugh! So be aware: If MOM is listed as “Women’s” it means it has a strong, (rather fake, IMO) floral smell.

    I was very disappointed that this deodorant leaves a white residue on skin and clothes. I will not buy it again, and unfortunately I have 2 bottles of it to use.

    Some time ago, my dermatologist told me to stop using antiperspirants because they were blocking my underarm pores, which caused itching. I tried another less expensive deodorant, but it was wax based, and it also caused itching. So I’ve been using this MOM exclusively for years. Works great. Stops odor, and I really don’t perspire much either. My only complaint is it’s too expensive.

    I prefer the unscented deodorant. I could not find any place on my order to check when I ordered the last four bottles. I always order in fours so I should have called. I will do so next time. I do love the product however, and it alleviates the problems I have with regular deodorants.

    Love it. This one works! I work and work out hard, and it doesn’t let me down. My other antiperspirants left a stinky, sticky residue on my clothes, but this doesn’t leave anything. Nice fragrance but not overwhelming. Easy to apply and dries quickly. I have heard of this for years but didn’t believe it. Sorry I waited so long.

    Tried MOM for the first time: it really does work and, yes, it is runny but just let it dry a few minutes before dressing. You must absolutely shake it thoroughly before each use.

    I’ve been using this product both scented and unscented for a couple of years. No irritation, no odor–works great. I love that it is aluminum free. I do prefer the scented variety but I’ll buy whichever is on sale! I actually like the fact that it is a “wet” roll-on. I’m old enough to remember when that was all that was available.

    I LOVE this product. I have used it over 5 years. Although it does go on wet, it takes only a few minutes to dry. I’m not sure why others mention a bad scent. I don’t find that to be the case at all. The only downside is the price.

    First tried it when my dermatologist told me my antiperspirant was clogging my pores, causing itching and breakouts. She said I should use just DEODORANT, not antiperspirant. I was afraid I would still be sweaty, but this works just fine. My only complaint is that it’s quite expensive. I order 3 at a time to minimize the shipping charges.

    I ordered 2 bottles for both my daughter and I to try. I am requested to leave a review; it hasn’t been long enough to truly say for sure but so far, I like the product. I am 67 so “roll on” wet deodorants are not unfamiliar to me. I accept a wet roll-on just fine (unlike younger customers who object to wet roll-on’s). The fact that it is a natural and safe product is the most important factor. My daughter is still nursing her baby and because of that, she hasn’t been willing to put any deodorant product on herself. This product seems to be a safe alternative. As for the scent? that is so subjective. I am sensitive to many perfumes and as a result, don’t wear any scent. This MoM product has a lovely light scent which is pleasing to me. But again, I wouldn’t give a product a bad rating simply because it was a scent I didn’t care for. When summer comes it will be more indicative of the efficacy of the deodorant–but for now, as a “new” user, I have nothing negative to say.

    Although the product is an effective deodorant for me and the floral scent is mild and pleasing, I just can not get used to the wetness of a roll on deodorant. I really wasn’t thinking about that aspect when I ordered, I was more concerned with the scent being too “grandma floral”. Of course the no-aluminum formula was my priority goal. Sadly, I am hooked on stick product. If you offer a stick someday, I will try again. Sorry I couldn’t get over the sensory issue.

    Just feel safer using deodorant that isn’t filled with aluminum or extra ingredients that appear to cause problems. I’ve even given it to my daughters. Jury is out for them, but it works for me.

    I’ve tried many natural deodorants but they’ve never worked for me. My friend and I decided to try this one. That was a year ago and I haven’t used anything else since. This is by far the best natural deodorant out there for me. The scent is very light, subtle and pleasant. I can apply this once in the morning during summertime and after an 8 mile afternoon bike ride, I’m still completely odor free! This stuff is amazing. My friend loves it too. I’m about to place my 3rd order.

    Love MoM!! I have used it now for 2 years. No stink. I am so happy with the product and plan to order another year’s supply. Interesting discovery, too. Ever since I have been using MoM, my tops and blouses don’t smell so I can wear them for several days. They never pick up an odor. However, the tops and blouses I wore before I used MoM, still retain the old odor and smell bad after one wearing. Needless to say, I am wearing my MoM exposed tops and blouses pretty much exclusively. This deodorant really works!!

    I purchased this deodorant originally unscented–and I loved it! Since then I purchased several containers of the women’s scented variety, and was very disappointed. The “fragrance” is so offensive I use it only when I won’t be around other people.

    Is the unscented deodorant still available? Can I trade it for the unused containers?

    I was skeptical this product would be effective since I’ve tried four or five other “natural” deodorants that did not work.

    I was wrong! MoM works 100% of the time and even after a long, stressful day I have no odor whatsoever.

    I also have sensitive skin and some deodorants cause irritation, but not MoM. I highly recommend this aluminum-free deodorant to all women looking for a safer alternative to conventional deodorants.

    Best deodorant ever! Love the scent! I am pretty stinky after a whole day without antiperspirant, but I don’t like the toxins. With Mom Deodorant, I can get in a sauna for 40 minutes and still no smell! I especially love the women’s scent, but it’s been out of stock for a long time. I hope they get it again soon!

    Have been very pleased with the MoM roll-on deodorant as it lasts over 48 hrs as I wanted to put it to the test in the case of ever having had to go through a stretch like that in the future.     I find that this works for me much of the year, but not when the hot summer of the Texas Gulf Coast sets in with a vengeance. Then it is not strong enough apparently as I smell to put it directly. Sorry to have to say that as I would like for it to work all the time.

    My wife was plagued with an allergic reaction that presented an underarm rash that seemed to come and go with different intensity when she changed brands of deodorant, but was always present in some degree. Her dermatologist suggested alternating brands of not only deodorant but shampoo and conditioner to help alleviate the issue. She tried that without any benefit to her condition but endured the itchy rash. Then you offered the MoM deodorant, I told her about it, ordered it for her and it seems to have permanently eliminated the problem. That was several years ago, she still uses it daily and she has not had a recurrence to date. Great product as a deodorant and also as a remedy for allergic reaction to other brands of chemically loaded deodorants!

    I expected to sweat or stink a little with the MoM roll-on. After all, it’s missing aluminum. But it works great!!! And it’s better for my body, I get a dose of magnesium! How cool is that? Even after shaving, MoM roll-on doesn’t burn either. And I love the delicate scent. I hope it comes in a larger size soon, like your fragrance-free deodorant. You have a customer for life!

    I always liked your product, but I felt the original needed a scent. There was an odor when I perspired so my clothes developed an odor over time. I like the new scented MOM. The scent is strong for me because I am sensitive to perfumes; however, I combine it with your regular MOM and like it just fine. Thanks for adding the scent. I hope you consider other possibilities like lavendar.

    Excellent product!!! Don’t expect to just try it one day and switch back and forth between this deodorant and other antiperspirants out there. I have found that antiperspirants seem designed to make you dependent on them. The more you use antiperspirants the less effective regular deodorants like MOM will be because you might perspire more at first. However, if you stick with MOM, this deodorant is all you’ll ever need.

    I’m a guy. I get the women’s because it has a VERY light scent, and I use nothing else. These reviews sound crazy, but it’s true– no odor, even after 2 days; no irritation; lasts a long time. I had irritation with anti-perspirants and fungal infections with or without deodorants my whole life, and then discovered this. As big a benefit to my life as going carb-free.

After reading some of the other reviews, it’s interesting to me how scents manifest themselves differently to individuals. I love the scent, it reminds me of walking into an herbal shop.     I have been using OTC MOM for several years- applying it with a Q-tip. It has worked very well for odor control, but not that effective for wetness (I’ve learned to live with that). I was anxious to try the convenient roll-on but found it too expensive (especially with the shipping cost). I ordered the scented women’s MoM on sale. To me, the scent is not “soft” as stated. It is harsh/acrid. It also does not work as well for me for odor control. If the day is warm, by midday I have some body odor plus the unpleasant deodorant smell. I’m wondering if the ingredients are plain MoM with scent added. I’m willing to try the unscented version if it is plain MoM – when it goes on sale. Thank you People’s Pharmacy for continued sound advice & safe products.

    It certainly does the job and I feel better knowing I’m not putting chemicals directly onto my skin to be absorbed. I had a severe rash under my breasts and it was painful and itchy. I put MoM under my breasts and it cleared the rash right up! For that reason I am giving 5 stars, but I absolutely hated the smell. I can’t even describe it. I would definitely purchase again if it had different fragrances.

    I’ve just ordered my third order of MOM deodorant. ( I purchase 3 at a time) It’s wonderful because it’s aluminum-free, lightly scented. It’s worth the wait for it to dry completely, because I know I’m protected for >24 hours. I have eczema and cannot bathe more than once in 48 hours, and MOM keeps me protected for the whole time. It’s the ONLY deodorant that is non-irritating to my skin and also keeps my underarms fresh and odor-free.

    I love not having to use something as non-natural as an antiperspirant or dealing with the hassle of dropping a salt crystal, to stay dry and odor free. Our bodies are bombarded with enough harmful chemicals throughout the day , we certainly don’t need to be applying more directly on our skin. The fragrance is light and doesn’t smell artficial.     I prefer the unscented version. I would call the scent “acrid” as opposed to “soft” – this is perhaps the quality others consider more like a man’s deodorant. Although it works as well as the other, this scented version leaves a slight smell on my clothes. The unscented MoM is the first and only non-alum deodorant I’ve found that works. I am completely loyal. Perhaps you could experiment more with scents – I’m willing to try them.

    I ordered bc nothing from the health food store was working and my doctor said to avoid aluminum. I like this the most of anything that I have tried. I should have ordered the non-scented, hence the 4 stars versus 5 stars. The scent is really TOO strong and should be adjusted bc I don’t mind scents but this one is too much.

    I feel like it works really well, even has a bit of antiperspirant properties which is rare when products don’t contain aluminum.

    Magnesium works great and is a safe deodorant. It is however, not an antiperspirant. The MOM deodorant is great however the scented has a strong smell more like a man’s product.     When I first read about MOM for deodorant, I happened to have an almost empty bottle of the original laxative on hand and thought I would try it. Yes, it worked, even in the hot summer; but I became increasingly concerned about the bleach in the product. Plus it was messy. Now I am using PP’s MOM product and all that mess has disappeared; but the effect has remained. So much easier this way.

    I’ve been using this for over 3 years, I buy 3 per order. Last time, Peoples lost all my account logins plus although I used their coupon code, they did not honor it and I paid full price–not happy.
    In menopause, my underarm smell is terrible. Also due to menopause, my skin is like I dragged it in glass and then poured velveeta cheese on top. I don’t like taking drugs for my skin/smell issues and I am anti-alum so I will not get a prescription. Since I can afford lasering the sweat glands from under my arms, I do this everyday as other deodorants and all antiperspirants no longer work. Shower-use paper towel to dry underarms. Soak underarms with Hydrogen Peroxide cotton pads; Dry with hairdryer. Wipe the ball of the MOM’s deodorant then apply to underarms- dry again with hairdryer. My pits are dry and don’t smell for the day. This works the best for me.

I have to wait for it to dry before I can dress. I do appreciate the idea and believe it’s better for my body, but cannot always depend on it to last thru the day. I will continue to use it.

    Works great! I have used the original MoM for a few years now and was excited about a woman’s MoM but worried that it might be “too” floral of a scent. It ended up being perfect! Very light scent, just enough to tell you have something on, but faint enough that it is not noticeable. Works the same as the original. Doesn’t keep me from sweating (which is a good thing for the body) but keeps you from stinking.

    I have used several different natural deodorants, plus some with aluminum when I have to. This actually eliminates order better the natural ones, even when I put an aluminum laced product on top of the natural one.
    So: control of odor – 5 stars; Safety and Health supporting – 5 stars ; Leaves a slight residue if it goes on too thick, but a tissue catching it while it is wet takes care of drips and white that would show. It does require a minute or so drying time to not appear as a white streak on clothes. I REALLY like it, despite that bit of extra care needed.

    I don’t particularly care for roll-on deodorant, but I use it anyway because it prevents odor. Have tried other aluminum-free deodorants but after a couple of hours I can smell a bad odor from my arm pits. Yuck, not a very pleasant subject, huh? But we ladies all have the same problem because as ladies we are not supposed to stink.

    The smell is a little over powering but dissipates quickly. I am getting ready to order my next supply so that should tell you that it does the job. Would have given this product a 5 but had to reduce it a little because it is a roll-on. Oh, and by-the-way, it lasts a long time too.

    If you want something without all the chemicals that work just as well as your average processed product, go for it. But when I think about it, it’s also done well when I’ve had my dripping wet workouts although I do think it builds up in strength over time. The scented version may be a little strong at first but even that improves over time–or maybe I’ve just become nose blind to it. And probably most important, you truly get your money’s worth in terms of product lasting over time.

    I really like MOM. The size is perfect for travel (TSA compliant). It was under a fairly significant load on its first use. I was at a multi-day conference with outdoor lunches. Dressed in suit. MOM held up great. The only issue is that it dries into a fairly noticeable white coating. So it’s a no-go with sleeveless blouses. Other than that it’s super.

    I work with and blend essential oils as part of my practice, and when I saw the words “light floral scent” and “natural oils” for some reason I assumed we get the usual lily-of-the-valley, Rose, and Jasmine, oils with a few drops of citrus to brighten the sent. For the most part I was correct, but I didn’t bank on the vetiveria.
    I know that vetiveria is commonly used in floral blends, but I personally find it very harsh and unpleasant. The MoM product works as well scented as it did unscented – which is to say I sweat when I work out but there is no unpleasant body odor associated with the sweat. A reapplication midday is enough to keep me odor free all day long. But due to the vetiveria, I find the fragrance sharp and distressing. If it’s ever re-blended, carnation oil might be a good substitute for that middle note.

    Needs to be applied both morning and night. The product works well, but is way too expensive. $6.25 is already high, and add $3 for shipping, it’s way too much. I did order 3 at a time to save some of the shipping cost. I can buy Arm & Hammer (the baking soda company) stick for $2, but I think the waxy texture clogs my pores and makes them itch when applied morning and night. My compromise is use MOM in the morning and Arm & Hammer at night. Works well and way less expensive than using only MOM.

    MoM is my daily go-to, but it isn’t heavy duty enough (for me) for any activity aside from daily indoor chores and office work in an air conditioned environment.

    If I have a busy, active day out in public (yard work, shopping, errands, baseball games, etc) I simply use Secret as it works all day.

    I bought this product for my daughter who quit wearing antiperspirant and had tried many natural deodorants. They did not keep her dry or smelling good. She loves this MoM! From day one… worked great and even with blouses that are blended /nylon/poly that are the worst for perspiration…no sweat, no odor. Can’t recommend it enough.     I perspire very much and have not found a deodorant that would prevent the odor. It’s embarrassing, to say the least. Many of them also made me itch. So far, this deodorant seems to be doing the trick. It can’t stop me from perspiring, but it is working on the odor that comes along.

    I decided to give this a try although a prior attempt to use a “natural” deodorant did not turn out very well. It only lasted only 10-12 hours. I was very pleased to find that the MOM deodorant is effective for a full day and until I shower the next morning. I am in Florida – and it’s summer. So it is getting tested! It is a bit drippy so I roll it on and rub it around to even the coverage and then need to wait a few moments to dry. I do recommend this product!

    This deodorant works, pure and simple. I have been using it consistently for over a year, and it never fails me — even under highly stressful situations. Over the years I have bought many expensive, non-aluminum deodorants and they simply wouldn’t pass the “stress test.” I like the floral scent and, personally don’t find it overpowering, but there’s always the option of the unscented. I apply it before making my morning coffee and it dries by the time I drink my first cup. The ethylhexylglycerin might be a potential irritant for some sensitive skins. . . happily that’s not been a problem for me.

    This product works for me. I have gone au natural for several years and accepted my ‘naturalness’ after many unsuccessful natural deodorant trials. This product has eliminated my natural odor. I was concerned about the fragrance of this product but decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did. To me the fragrance is not flowery, maybe a hint of lavender, but more like sage incense. I think the fragrance dissipates quickly that I don’t even notice it and I am sensitive to a lot of fragrances. I highly recommend it.

    The scent is what prevented me from giving this product five stars. I love the original but was not given the option of buying it at the time of purchase. Both products serve the purpose and I love the chem free idea. It is a bit pricey for the small container and a bit thin/watery when applying but all and all an excellent product. I have recommended it to several people and will be ordering again but hope I have the option of getting the original. Bought 3 bottles of the scented so it will be awhile.

    I love this because it is natural – nothing to harm me in this, it dries fast and I love the delicate scent. I know about magnesium and no bacteria can ever grow in magnesium. I’ve avoided using deodorants with aluminum since learning about them around 30 years ago. It was very difficult to find some without aluminum in those days. I’ve been a dedicated user from the first time I heard about it.

    Once I learned about how harmful the aluminum in deodorant was, especially for woman- I switched to aluminum free deodorants; however, it has been a process to find one that will keep me dry and smelling fresh all day. My girlfriend and I have tried over 10 different brands of aluminum free deodorant from local stores and Wholefoods. This does not include our attempts at crystal sticks, baby powder, apple cider vinegar and other home remedies. We finally decided, we were just going to have to live with that fact that we weren’t as fresh and dry as we would like to be, until… we received a MoM deodorant for Christmas last year and loved it! It does everything we need it to do, without the chemicals or aluminum- we even enjoy the scent! I highly recommend this deodorant to anyone! – Best Christmas gift we received last year.

    It’s been less than a week, but so far so good. The lavender smell is a bit strong at first but I don’t smell it as much now and it is a tad watery. I think if it was made a little thicker, you wouldn’t have to wait to let it dry. But overall, it is doing what it’s supposed to do–without the chemicals.

    Works for a natural product. Scent is ok, a bit on the herbal scent. I have tried many “natural,” non-aluminum deodorant but have been very disappointed because they haven’t worked. I have tried different brands from low- to mid- to high-end non-aluminum products such as Tom of Maine, L’Occitaine, etc., but non have worked well and I would stink in 2-3 hours. This product MOM has worked all day for me. I have used it for 10 days now and it seems to withstand a humid day in Texas. I have not been working out because I’m nursing a newborn but hopefully this product can withstand a sweaty workout.

    Other deodorants caused me to have fungal infections every summer. I had a prescription cream for that, very expensive. This stuff works wonderfully; no odor even skipping a day between showers. No fungal problem since I started using two years ago. I’m a guy, but I get the scented one and it smells (very faint) but great. I asked our local hippie-dippy store to get it (Natural Living Center) and they said they couldn’t. Too bad– everybody should get a chance to try this stuff.

    This product worked well at controlling my own natural odor. However, the scent of the product is unpleasant. Wish I’d ordered the non-fragranced one. A friend had told me the scent was very light and floral. To me it is not floral at all. Everyone’s nose is different. It did dry pretty well.

    I am so glad I found this site and this deodorant. I’m into non-chemical and natural when it comes to putting something on my body or in it. Was a bit worried I might not like the lavender scent but, I like it a lot. It’s not sticky and it dries fast.

    I’ve been using your unscented MOM roll-on since it first came out, and find it works as well for me as antiperspirants, but without the toxic & artificial ingredients. Since the unscented is unavailable, I got this scented version instead. It seems to work equally well, and the scent is mild. Please don’t stop selling it, as the other natural products are nearly not as effective!
    I want to second the request for it coming in a larger bottle, as it would mean not needing to reorder as often.

    Regular deodorant has never really done it’s job for me, so I decided to look for something that ACTUALLY works. I came across this product over the many reviews and it seemed too good to be true. So I decided to try it out and I received my package a week later and I tested it out for a week. I was totally shocked at how by the evening I would still be smelling fresh and my shirts would still smell pleasant! The flowery smell bothered me at first bc it’s not what I’m used to, but it’s not bad after a couple of days. Also when you apply it on you have to let it air dry or something bc it leaves your pits wet. At first it was a hassle, but I don’t mind at all bc this deodorant does its job perfectly! With regular deodorant it would be quite embarrassing to lift my arms up or wear cute tanks bc of my peculiar smell that was a mix of sweat and deodorant. But now I’m so excited for summer and those hot days in Texas! I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!

    I like the product because it does work and the scent does not bother me as I feared it would. However, I sometimes get a rash if I put it on too heavy. I find if I use a light coating and skip days ever now and then, I avoid the rash. When I get dressed, I put everything else on first, and then the top last in order to give it time to dry.

    I’ve been using natural deodorants for years. I would find one that worked, but a few months, later it would really let me down, odor-wise. I read about MoM, and tried it. Going through the cotton pads for application seemed a little wasteful, but it really worked.     I have bought this product for a few years now for myself and a friend of mine, and I just love the scent. I dry it with my hairdryer, and it will stay effective for most of the day.
    However, if dressing for an evening outing, I always have to wash and re apply in order to stay fresh. It never lasts a whole day for me, but, it is so gentle and soothing on my underarms so I continue using it. The best “natural” product I have ever used.

    Finally! A naturally formulated, non-aluminum/alum, nice smelling deodorant that works 95% as well as an antiperspirant! I use a blowdryer to speed the drying time (only takes a minute). I often apply baby powder afterwards to minimize developing any sticky feeling during the day. Will last at least through the day & is very good on odor control. Occasionally will need to reapply before evening activities or working out, but usually only in the summer. Unlike other natural brands, NO staining or marks on skin or clothes. LOVE the price, too.

    Mom Roll-on Deodorant works great (even better than store-bought). Keeps me smelling good all day, but it takes 20 minutes to dry! That is a LONG time to wait to dress. Isn’t there a natural drying agent that could be added to the formulary? I notice that one person says she uses a blow dryer…..However, I don’t even blow dry my hair; I sure don’t want to have to blow dry my underarms!! That takes time too!

So finding MOM has proved to be a godsend….it works, the lavender scent is pleasant, and drying with a sweep of the hair dryer is no problem compare to the hazards of aluminum or incompetence of other aluminum free products.     I use this product when I go away on trips for convenience.

    At home, I purchase from Walgreens drug store their no nonsense brand of “sugar free milk of magnesia.” I then purchase either a cheap bag of cotton balls or use my own tissues at home and apply it under my armpits with no problem. Sometimes I save the cotton balls because they just easily dry up for the next morning.

    I’m just VERY frugal :-)

    I really like this product. It works as good as commercial deodorants, but it does take a long time to dry on the skin before one can get dressed. I notice one person said she uses a blow dryer on low to dry it; I’ll have to try this.

    Isn’t it possible to use a drying agent in the formulary that is also natural?

    I love the lavender scented version. To hasten drying time I use my blow dryer on the low temperature high speed setting. My underarm dries very quickly when using that method. A completely dry underarm also means that no deodorant residue gets on my clothes! Thanks for making a safe alternative to conventional deodorants.
